Throughout the 15+ years that I have been painting,
and previously via other media, I have consistently been drawn to still life imagery. My training as an artist was first in textile design, later in painting. Patterned surfaces are often part of my subject matter; they may be painted in, block printed on, or may even be the stretched surface of the painting.
I am currently working more with figures as subject matter and am experimenting with various supports and techniques in oil painting. Consistent, though, is my commitment to exploring composition, a sense of place and emotional content through a realism which makes the ordinary vibrant with color, texture, pattern or the occasional odd viewpoint.
I believe that, among the many messages of the art world, there is a place for the sheer energy and celebration found in beautiful images.
